Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's ODI Lineup to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a shock inclusion.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI squad following managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia search for a answer to their opening batting issues.

Pace Additions and Fitness News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a back injury by the time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
