Learners Voice Anxieties That AI Is Weakening Their Study Skills, Research Reveals

Based on new study, pupils are voicing fears that using artificial intelligence is weakening their capability to study. Numerous report it makes schoolwork “effortless”, while some argue it limits their innovative capacity and prevents them from developing new skills.

Widespread Usage of Artificial Intelligence Among Students

An analysis focused on the utilization of artificial intelligence in British educational institutions found that just 2% of learners between the ages of 13 and 18 reported they did not use artificial intelligence for their studies, while four-fifths indicated they regularly utilized it.

Adverse Effect on Abilities

Despite artificial intelligence's prevalence, 62% of the pupils said it has had a adverse impact on their competencies and progress at school. A quarter of the students affirmed that artificial intelligence “facilitates accessing solutions without independent work”.

An additional 12% said artificial intelligence “limits my creative thinking”, while comparable figures stated they were less prone to address issues or compose originally.

Almost 50% of the 2,000 students questioned expressed they were worried their classmates were “secretly using AI” for schoolwork without their teachers being able to spot it.

Call for Support and Positive Components

Numerous participants reported that they wanted more guidance from teachers for the correct use of artificial intelligence and in judging whether its output was accurate. An initiative aimed at assisting teachers with AI guidance is being launched.

Only 31% indicated they didn’t think employing artificial intelligence had a negative influence on any of their competencies. But, most of respondents said using artificial intelligence aided them gain additional competencies, including 18% who indicated it aided them grasp challenges, and 15% who stated it aided them generate “original and superior” thoughts.
