Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
